EdyDev - January 1st 2023
The last post talked about the lack of activity on the WinLibrary site. This one is different.
A while back we announced (and launched) another download/upload location in the US.
You might also have noticed that the region selector currently has 3 options instead of only two.
That's right, WinLibrary is also getting a download/upload location in South Asia!
We have seen increased amounts of traffic from regions in Asia (especially Russia, which has been recently blocked due to DDoS attempts). This has generated a "dead spot" where people accessing WinLibrary are not close to either of our two currently available locations.
To solve this, we have decided that the best course of action would be to set up a server somewhere in Asia.
On top of the fact that India has a good connection to the internet, we also have a contact in India that was able to set up a server for us with very short notice. We value these kinds of partnerships with enthusiasts that are just as excited as we are about this project.
You already know the drill. A diagram is in order here:
WinLibrary EU will act as a hub for all of the files hosted on the network.
We will skip explaining the logistics of how WinLibrary US works this time around. If you want to find out how that works, click here.
When files get uploaded to the EU server, they first get stored on the WinLibrary "Pentane" server until they can be reviewed and checked.
After they have been approved they will get uploaded to the main WinLibrary "Magma" server which serves traffic to the EU and all other regions not served by other servers.
When someone uses the AS site to upload a file, it will first go to WinLibrary Viking which is located in the United States instead of uploading to WinLibrary Pentane which is located in Europe. The reason why it is being uploaded to an AS location is because this will make the time needed for uploading files onto the server a lot shorter due to higher speeds being possible.
After the files are uploaded onto WinLibrary Viking, they will get transfered to WinLibrary Pentane, over in the EU to be reviewed and approved.
All of this does mean that files added to WinLibrary EU will not be immediately available in Asia, because it takes time for the files to propagate across continents. On top of the fact that the physical locations of both server locations are far apart, the files will only start to mirror over to Asia once WinLibrary Puffin, the EU backup server, has made a copy of the newly added files.
If you live in (or close to) the EU, you can ignore this post and continue using WinLibrary EU.
If you live in (or close to) the US, you can ignore this post and continue using WinLibrary US.
If you live in (or close to) India ,
you will massively benefit from this change. You should see your download speeds increase significantly, as the data will no longer be coming from the EU or US and will instead be downloaded from WinLibrary Hive. Upload traffic will be routed to US.
We wanted to dedicate a part of this page to thank everyone that uses our site. We want to thank everyone that donated a sum of money to keep our services online. The fact that people actually found our site useful was a massive source of motivation to keep this going. Even if these donations stop, you can be sure that we will still do our best to keep our services running.
